DELTA LOSES $466 MILLION IN FIRST QUARTER, CARGO REVENUE FLAT
Delta Airlines reported last week a first quarter net loss of $466 million compared with a $397 million loss during the same period in 2002.
The Atlanta-based carrier said cargo revenue increased slightly to $113 million from $111 million in the first quarter of 2002. The 1.8 percent increase is in contrast to the 40.5-percent increase reported by Continental Airlines and the 12.8-percent increase reported by Northwest.
Delta's cargo ton miles flown were 353 million compared to 350 million in the year-ago period. Delta said cargo ton yield improved to 32 cents from 31.7 cents.
