Delta outsources spare parts logistics to Boeing
Boeing Co. said it will help Delta Airlines reduce operating costs by managing the airline's logistics for certain spare parts.
Under the arrangement, Boeing will be responsible for purchasing, inventory management and logistics for expendable airframe parts. The program initially will focus on Boeing parts, but may grow to include parts from aftermarket and other suppliers.
Delta said turning over materials management to Boeing will keep its inventory costs down and eliminate the problem of stocking spare parts that become obsolete.
Last month, Boeing entered into a similar materials management arrangement with Japan Transocean Air, a subsidiary of Japan Airlines.
