Derailed CN train leaks fuel into river
Fuel oil leaked into the Rivi're du Loup Sunday after 14 cars were derailed from a train on Canadian National Railway Co.’s Joliette Subdivision line near Charette, Quebec, about 140 kilometers northeast of Montreal.
The 141-car freight train, traveling to Arvida, Quebec from Toronto, derailed at 12:35 p.m. CN said the incident caused no injuries although four tank cars have leaked fuel product into the river.
“CN is assessing the amount of fuel release and is taking immediate steps to contain the spill and recover lost product,” the railway said in a statement.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
