Dezenski to head DHS cargo and trade policy unit

   The U.S. Homeland Security Department has appointed Elaine Dezenski to director of cargo and trade policy for its Border and Transportation Security Directorate.

   As head of the directorate’s Cargo and Trade Policy Unit, Dezenski will focus on policies related to international cargo, trade and supply chain security. The unit works closely with officials from the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection and Transportation Security Administration on cargo screening and trade facilitation issues, including the Container Security Initiative, the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, and advanced manifest requirements and targeting.

   Prior to this appointment, Dezenski served as director of TSA’s maritime, land and cargo security policy from July 2002 to January 2003. She also previously served as a special assistant to the administrator of the Federal Transit Administration and as a program manager in FTA Office of Research.
