DHL sets up outpost in FedEx territory
Overnight delivery and logistics services provider DHL took a direct shot in its competition with FedEx by opening of a new regional sort center in Memphis, home base for the giant FedEx operation.
The facility is the third of seven new regional sort centers DHL is adding to its network during the next two months as part of a $1.2 billion investment program launched in June and follows last week’s opening of new centers in Denver and Salt Lake City.
DHL said it is investing $3 million in the 23,060-square-foot Memphis facility, which will enable it to expand its one-day ground services to parts of Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and Kentucky.
