DOT CALLS FOR ALL-CARGO CARRIERS TO REPORT AIR TRAFFIC ACTIVITY
All-cargo air carriers must report data on their air traffic activity to the U.S. Department of Transportation, effective Oct. 1, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics said Tuesday.
The rule requires that those air carriers, as well as small certificated and commuter carriers, to report on freight and passenger traffic, available capacity, and the number and duration of flights.
The rule also requires:
* U.S. carriers to provide detailed information for all their military flights.
* The operating carrier to report joint-service operations, including code-sharing, wet-leasing and substitution-of-service operations.
* U.S. carriers to submit total aircraft hours for each reported plane type, fuel consumed by plane type, and planes’ days assigned to service.
“The rule will improve analysis of the aviation system by giving planners and decision-makers more information,” Dr. Ashish Sen, BTS director, said. BTS will distribute software to carriers to facilitate the reporting the information.
