DRAGONAIR SEES INCREASE IN CARGO VOLUME

   Hong-Kong based carrier Dragonair on Thursday reported a year-on-year increase of 64 percent'in tons of cargo carried'the first seven months of this year.'From January to July 2002,'it carried'96,445 tons'of cargo. Dragonair said this is a 64 percent over last year’s total of 58,667 for the same time period.''

   In month-on-month numbers, the carrier'reported'that this July’s cargo numbers for tons carried (15,744 tons) was a 68 percent increase over last year’s figure for the same month at 9,353 tons.''

   Dragonair said that its launching of freighter and passenger services to Taipei last month contributed to the increase. “The connectivity we are able to offer passengers and shippers alike 'from Taipei to mainland China through our Hong Kong hub is clearly proving (to be) popular,” said Stanley Hui, chief executive officer.

   The carrier’s'freighter network connects the markets of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East'with two Boeing 747-300 freighters, in addition to a fleet of 20 passenger planes.'
