EC moves closer to ISPS inspection regulation
A committee of the European Commission has adopted a draft regulation designed to give the Brussels-based body the power to inspect ships and ports, to ensure that they abide by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code.
Jean Trestour, acting director at the EC’s energy and transport directorate, told the Worldwide Security Conference in Brussels Monday that the draft maritime security inspection regulation was approved on Feb. 2. He expects the EC to adopt the final regulation in about April.
