EGL, LANCHILE FORM LATIN AMERICA ALLIANCE
EGL Inc., which operates as EGL Eagle Global Logistics, and LanChile S.A. have entered into a strategic alliance to expand service to and from Latin America.
“EGL is pleased that LanChile has recognized our increased strength as a result of our merger with Circle International Group Inc. and of other initiatives we are undertaking in Latin America,” said James R. Cane, chairman and chief executive officer of EGL.
“LanChile is rapidly deploying additional new aircraft in this market, and we see many opportunities to cooperate with EGL, as one of our top accounts,” said Armando Valdivieso, president of LanChile Cargo, which comprises, LanChile, Fast Air, Mas Air, Lan-Peru, South Florida Airways and Florida West. The group operates nine 767F and three 747-200F freighters into major Latin American destinations from Los Angeles, Houston, New York and Paris.
LanChile, the leading domestic and international passenger/cargo carrier in Chile. The airline is a partner in the oneworld global alliance which comprises LanChile, Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia and Qantas. LanChile also maintains separate alliances with American, Alaska Airlines, AeroMexico/Mexicana, TAM, Varig, Qantas and BA.
Houston-based EGL provides transportation, supply chain and information services through a network of 400 terminals in 100 countries.
The two companies said they are also exploring other areas to expand operations.
