EMERY, USPS LAUNCH PARCEL@HOME

Emery Worldwide, the integrated air freight subsidiary of CNF Inc., has launched in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service an international and domestic home delivery program, called Parcel@Home, offering shippers business-to-residence delivery to any address in the United States

Emery said the new program is targeted at shippers of high-value computer and electronic products, including multiple-piece shipments weighing up to 70 pounds per piece. Emery will provide delivery of both domestic and U.S. import shipments. Non-U.S. shippers will be able to tender U.S. residential deliveries to Emery overseas under one bill.

Parcel@Home “brings a new level of service to the business-to-residence delivery market, a market in which we anticipate substantial growth as more consumers order goods through e-commerce, telemarketing and mail order sources,” said Roger Piazza, Emery president and chief executive officer.

Emery will offer pick-up of bulk, pre-sorted shipments; two-, three- and four-day delivery; electronic delivery confirmation; and full tracking capabilities. Emery will fly the bulk shipments to its Dayton, Ohio, sorting center then route palletized shipments to regional USPS centers for zip-code sorting and postal home delivery.

'Parcel@Home is similar to programs launched by Airborne Express, Paxis and other companies, that rely on the USPS for final delivery to the home. The USPS has encouraged such partnerships through a new rebate scheme enacted last year that promises parcel companies lower postage bills for consolidating parcel shipments and providing long-haul transportation.
