Emirates joining Asia-East Coast service

Emirates Shipping Line, a carrier with headquarters in Dubai and Hong Kong that started operations in February, said Wednesday it will take space on the Asia U.S. Express Service operated by Zim Integrated Shipping Services and Italia Maritima.

Emirates will have space on the vessels beginning November 21. The fixed-day weekly service has a port rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Colon, Kingston, Port Everglades, Savannah, Wilmington, Kingston, Colon, Shanghai.

'The AUX service will provide our customers with the fastest direct links between two of the world's most dynamic regions: Eastern China and the East Coast of the United States,' Emirates chairman and CEO Vikas Khan said.

The carrier noted the service provides one of the few direct calls from Qingdao and Shanghai to Florida.

Emirates, which earlier this year took space on Zim's Asia/U.S. Gulf service that calls Tampa, said it will also market transshipments to the Caribbean and Central America from Colon and Kingston, where Zim has substantial transshipment and feeder service operations.
