Ethiopian Airlines takes up option for five more Boeing 787s

   Addis Ababa-based Ethiopian Airlines has exercised its purchase rights for an additional five Boeing 787 “Dreamliner” airplanes, increasing its firm orders for the 787 to 10 airplanes.

   The initial order was announced Feb 4., and the 10 aircraft are valued at $1.6 billion at list prices.

   Ethiopian Airlines will be the first Africa-based operator of the 787 aircraft, with its first plane due to be delivered in 2008.

   Boeing said it now has 266 orders and commitments from 21 customers for the 787 aircraft.
