EUROPE/AFRICA CARRIERS WARN OF POSSIBLE IVORY COAST WAR CHARGE
Shipping lines of the Europe West Africa Trade Agreement have notifed shippers of a plan to introduce a war risk surcharge for Ivory Coast, the West African country torn by a civil war.
The Lloyds Joint War Committee has issued new “war trading warranties” that have added Ivory Coast to the list of excluded areas, the carrier group said.
The conference said that possible extra costs are not available now, but it warned that it may have to pass on any extra war risk insurance and other related costs to customers with immediate effect.
The carriers of the Europe West Africa Trade Agreement are Maersk Sealand, its sister company Safmarine, Nile Dutch Africa Line, P&O Nedlloyd and West-Afrika Linien-Dienste.
