EUROPE/EASTERN MED CARRIERS LOWER WAR RISK SURCHARGE
Shipping lines of the Europe Mediterranean Trade Agreement said they'll decrease the war risk surcharge recently introduced following the terrorist attacks in the United States.
“Following substantial efforts by lines in discussions with insurance underwriters, the additional premia initially advised have reduced and it is now possible to reduce surcharge levels,” a spokesman for the conference said.
Effective Oct. 8, the surcharge for shipments to and from Egypt, Syria and Lebanon will be halved, to $125 TEU.
The Israel sub-group of the conference is evaluating a revision of the current $150/TEU surcharge for shipments to and from Israel.
Carriers of the Europe Mediterranean Trade Agreement include Andrew Weir Shipping (Ellerman), CMA CGM, Hamburg-Sud, “K” Line, Maersk Sealand, Mediterranean Shipping Co., P&O Nedlloyd, Safmarine and Senator Lines.
