Europe/West Africa lines drop Monrovia surcharge

   Shipping lines of the Europe West Africa Trade Agreement (EWATA) have canceled the recently introduced emergency surcharge at the port of Monrovia, Liberia.

   A surcharge of 1,000 euros ($1,227) per 20-foot dry and reefer container and 1,800 euros ($2,208) per 40-foot dry and reefer container calling to and from the port of Monrovia was introduced May 16 “due to severe restrictions in working hours.”

   According to EWATA, normal working hours at the port have resumed.

   EWATA members are Compania Sud Americana de Vapores and its subsidiary Companhia Libra de Navega''o, CP Ships carriers Lykes Lines and TMM Lines, Delmas and its affiliate OT Africa Line, Maersk Sealand and sister company Safmarine, and Nile Dutch Africa Line.
