EVERGREEN, LLOYD TRIESTINO ENTER FAR-REACHING ALLIANCE

   Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine Corp. and Italy’s Lloyd Triestino Di Navegazione, which is owned by the Evergreen Group, have entered into a far-reaching alliance agreement, which authorizes the lines to discuss rates, tariffs, service items and service contracts and to voluntarily reach a consensus or agreement on such issues.

   The agreement also allows the lines to cooperate on matters relating to the exchange of vessel space and equipment, electronic data interchange, office operations, joint service contracts, rates and vessel operations and costs in the trade between the United States and the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, Australia and New Zealand.

   The agreement, which authorizes the carriers to operate up to 90 vessels in the trade with TEU capacities ranging from 1,800 to 7,000, must go through a 45-day clearance process at the Federal Maritime Commission Before going into effect.
