EVERGREEN SELLS AND CHARTERS BACK SIX SHIPS

Evergreen Marine Corp., the Taiwanese listed arm of the Evergreen group, sold six containerships last year, according to a recent investment report.

Credit Suisse First Boston said in a report on Evergreen Marine Corp. that the company sold two ships in December, making a disposal gain of about NT$600 million ($17 million), following the sale of four ships earlier last year.

The sale of the ships allowed the company to raise its post-tax profit last year to NT$1.7 billion ($48 million), from NT$1.3 billion in 2000, despite a fall in revenue.

A spokesman for Evergreen Marine Corp. said the six disposed ships are four 1,810-TEU “L type” containerships and two 3,428-TEU “GX” vessels.

The ships were all sold and chartered back by Evergreen Marine Corp.
