Ex-Geest executives start Ge-eX Logistics
Three former executives of Geest North Sea Line, a Dutch carrier acquired by Iceland’s Samskip in 2005, have established a new intermodal container logistics company, Ge-eX Logistics BV.
Gerard de Groot, formerly commercial director of Geest, will head up the Port of Rotterdam-based Ge-eX Logistics as managing director, while John Oprel becomes financial director, a position he also held at Geest. Wout Pronk, formerly managing director of Geest, joins as a shareholder in the new company and will provide project consultancy support.
“We will operate with our own 45-foot palletwide containers throughout mainland Europe, the U.K. and Ireland. We intend to concentrate initially on developing Eastern Europe where there is a real need for well managed intermodal logistics services, working strongly with the partners that we already have in our network,” De Groot said.
He added that agreements are already in place with short-sea shipping companies, rail operators and road hauliers to provide transport services.
