Ex Works going national with forwarder-trucker technology
Ex Works Inc., a Boston-based technology company that provides connectivity between freight forwarders and truckers, said customers are using the product nationwide after extensive testing in the Northeast.
Ex Works offers forwarders connectivity to all the truckers in their existing network, from the large national carriers to small owner operators. Larger truckers connect electronically, and smaller truckers use the free Web site.
Ex works officials said they have had 100 percent participation with trucking companies contacted to date. They credit the fact that the technology is free and easy to use for truckers. There are now more than 500 trucking companies participating, and Ex Works is adding about 25 more each week.
Ex Works said three of the 10 largest forwarders in the world are using the system.
'We conducted a detailed study of the cost of processing billing and PODs, (proof of delivery documents)' said Tom Outwin, managing director of the Northeast for Panalpina. 'Ex Works automates these back office tasks with truckers, enabling our people to focus more attention on customer service and less on approving endless piles of paper invoices.'
