Exel earns Brazil multimodal license

The international supply chain management company Exel said Thursday it had received a multimodal operator license for Brazil, allowing the company to move one shipment using different transport modes under a single bill of lading.

Brazil is the only country in South America requiring such certification, and Exel said it is one of the first supply chain companies to earn the certification, which is granted by that country's government.

Douglas Tacla, Exel's director of transportation in South America, said the certification will provide multiple benefits to customers operating in Brazil.

'Instead of holding a shipment to complete paperwork at each mode changeover, only one document is needed, making our operations more agile,' he said. 'As a result, we expect on-time delivery performance to increase and our customers will realize tax savings by completing the paperwork process at the beginning for the shipment's life cycle. Ultimately, while this license is not a business requirement in Brazil, it represents a competitive advantage for Exel in service capabilities and customer service.'
