EXEL SIGNS CONTRACT WITH COMPAQ, RENEWS DEAL WITH ROCHE

Exel has signed a contract with Compaq to handle the computer manufacturer's supply chain from Europe and the Far East into South Africa.

Though financial terms of the contract were not released, the deal involves the shipping of more than 2 million kilograms per year, including desktop and laptop computers and monitors.

Exel will provide distribution and storage from various Compaq and vendor locations in Scotland, the Netherlands, Eastern Europe and the Far East to South Africa. The logistics firm has established a dedicated 3,000-square-meter regional logistics center for Compaq in Johannesburg.

Exel also said Monday it has added a three-year extension to its contract with Roche, a research-based health care company. Exel manages the logistics of Roche's entire U.K. health care product portfolio.

Exel is responsible for receiving inbound prescription drugs stock, providing temperature controlled warehousing, managing stock, receiving customer orders, pick and pack, and distribution to hospitals and pharmacies across the United Kingdom.
