Exel signs logistics contract with Marks & Spencer, Desmonds
Exel, the U.K.-based international logistics service provider, has been awarded a contract to provide services to The Zip Project, a joint venture between Marks & Spencer in the U.K. and privately owned Desmonds in Northern Ireland.
Zip provides all of Marks & Spencer’s children’s clothes, supplied from a number of locations worldwide. Exel will coordinate and control the supply of children’s clothes from manufacturing centers throughout Turkey to the U.K.
The logistics firm will collect products from supplier factories, and carry out freight consolidation and customs clearance into the U.K.
Zip will have full visibility of all shipments using Exel’s global visibility and “event management” systems which are integrated into both Zip’s and Marks & Spencer’s supply chain systems. In addition, working with Zip, Exel recently completed the installation of an accredited quality control facility in Hadimkoy to test products.
