EXEL WINS BID FOR BRITISH MILITARY CARGO
Exel has been awarded the export air freight business from the United Kingdom's Defense Transportation Movement Agency (DTMA), a division of the Defense Logistics Organization.
Exel has handled customs clearance for the DTMA and 50 percent of their air export business under a September 2000 contract. Exel will now handle the DTMA's entire air freight business, in addition to continuing to handle the import customs for another 18 months.
Under the terms of the contract, Exel will manage customs clearance of inbound arrivals at all U.K. commercial airports in addition to all military arrivals at RAF Lyneham and RAF Brize Norton.
Exel will be shipping 1.3 million kilograms of all types of military equipment, ship spares and air craft parts on a global basis with 98 percent being shipped on commercial aircraft and 2 percent being shipped by road.
