FAA FINES HONEYWELL $52,000 FOR HAZMAT VIOLATIONS
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has proposed to assess a $52,000 civil penalty against Honeywell for violating the government’s hazardous materials transportation regulations.
The FAA alleged that on Sept. 10, 2000, Phoenix, Ariz.-based Honeywell improperly offered a fiberboard box containing a fuel pump holding residual fuel, a flammable liquid, to United Parcel Service.
“Ground handling employees at the UPS sort facility in Louisville discovered the shipment leaking and emitting a fuel odor,” the FAA said.
The FAA said Honeywell did not properly package, mark, class, describe or document the shipment according to regulations. The shipper also failed to properly train its employees on the handling of hazardous materials.
