Famous Pacific members shifting focus

Members of the Famous Pacific Shipping group of non-vessel-operating common carriers said that with their network in solid shape, they can shift their focus to increasing sales and volumes.

That was the message out of the group's annual meeting in Qingdao, China, where 150 executives from 60 offices worldwide met to review their common goals. The Famous Pacific group comprises 43 individual companies from 22 countries. The group has its strongest presence in the Asia Pacific region, but has representation in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Alvin Tan, of FPS Singapore and newly elected group chairman, said members have achieved their goals of building their network around the world and developing information technology for members over the last few years, but they are ready for moving into another phase of growth.

'With the administration of the network functioning successfully, now is the time to build on our volumes,' he said. 'To do that we have identified key markets and industry sectors that we will be targeting in the future, as well as developing value-added options to support our core ocean freight and air freight services. We've also committed to increasing significantly sales visits involving staff from two or more partners within the network.'
