FAR EASTERN FREIGHT CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES HIGHER RATES ON PAPER SHIPMENTS

   Shipping lines of the Far Eastern Freight Conference are planning to increase rates on paper shipments from the Mediterranean and north Europe to Asia on May 1.

   “The current rates for paper and paper products (including waste paper and plastic scrap) and also timber/lumber which are due to expire on April 30, 2002 will be increased by $200 per container with effect from May 1,” the conference said.

   The shipping lines of the Eastbound Management Agreement and Mediterranean Rate Agreement units of the Far Eastern Freight Conference are APL, CMA CGM, Egyptian International Shipping Co., Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, “K” Line, Maersk Sealand, Malaysia International Shipping Corp., MOL, NYK Line, Orient Overseas Container Line, P&O Nedlloyd and Yang Ming.
