Federal agencies teaming up for Caribbean security
The U.S. Coast Guard is teaming up with other enforcement-related federal agencies in a partnership called the Caribbean Border Interagency Group (CBIG) that is expected to improve both enforcement efforts and interagency coordination in the region.
A story in the new edition of the Coast Guard quarterly Coastline said the partnership includes the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, Customs and Border Patrol, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“The Coast Guard is working with our DHS partners to enhance our collective abilities to detect, interdict, and prevent the entry of terrorists, weapons of mass destruction, illegal migrants, and narcotics that may come across our shared areas of responsibility,' said Capt. James Turnstall, the commander of Coast Guard Sector San Juan.
The partnership includes interagency training programs and ongoing efforts to enhance daily operations through shared intelligence, resource allocations, planning and implementation of joint enforcement operations, the report said.
