FEDEX GROUND OPENS AUTOMATED TERMINAL IN CLEVELAND
FedEx Ground, the small-package ground carrier subsidiary of FedEx Corp., has opened a new pickup and delivery facility in Cleveland.
The 229,000-square-foot facility will serve the 3,000-square-mile metropolitan Cleveland and Akron areas, and will replace four older and separate sites in the area.
The facility, which can house up to 144 pickup and delivery vans, is designed to operate as a 'mini' hub in addition to its local pickup and delivery activities. FedEx Ground said the facility would provide expanded ground coverage as well as faster transit times for packages traveling greater distances.
The automated terminal will use package-sortation technology, including high-speed camera-based scanners to read all sides of a package.
FedEx Ground has four other automated terminals in its network, located in Chattanooga, Tenn.; Carol Stream, Ill.; Dallas; and Indianapolis. The company will open a sixth such facility in St. Louis in February.
