FedEx initiates Hong Kong/Paris service

FedEx Express said it has initiated a service from Hong Kong to Paris, in the process becoming the first U.S. air carrier to operate a regularly scheduled flight into Kazakhstan.

A FedEx MD-11 will use the airport in Almaty as a refueling stop, enabling FedEx to increase cargo capacity an additional 55,000 on each flight than the previous routes.

Customers in Hong Kong will also be able to drop off their shipments eight-and-a-half hours later, as the delivery company moves its scheduled departure from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. the next morning.

The Hong Kong to Paris flight was made possible in September when FedEx was awarded 13 additional frequencies in and out of Hong Kong by the U.S. Department of Transportation under a new U.S.-China open-skies treaty.
