FIATA, EUROPEAN COMPANIES AGREE TO PROMOTE INTERMODAL

The Federation of International Freight Forwarders’ Associations (FIATA) and the International Union of Combined Road-Rail Transport Companies, based in Brussels, have signed a joint declaration to cooperate in promoting intermodal transport.

International Union of Combined Road-Rail Transport Companies — also known as UIRR — represents 17 European private-sector intermodal transport operators.

The International Union of Combined Road-Rail Transport Companies said it believes that a closer cooperation and exchange of ideas with FIATA would promote intermodal as an essential technique for freight transport.

Both the Federation of International Freight Forwarders’ Associations and the International Union of Combined Road-Rail Transport Companies said it is necessary to enhance the quality of rail supply in Europe in terms of reliability and punctuality.
