FKI Logistex, Michaels extend partnership
FKI Logistex said it has won a contract from Michaels Stores Inc. to supply a turnkey picking, cross-docking, and automated sorting system at the retailer’s new Northwest retail distribution center in Centralia, Wash.
The 715,000-square-foot facility will be the fourth Michaels distribution center for which FKI Logistex has provided a fully automated material handling operation. Michaels, a specialty retailer of arts, crafts, framing, floral, wall decor, and seasonal merchandise owns and operates 906 Michaels stores in 48 states and Canada, 165 Aaron Brothers stores, 11 Recollections stores and four Star Wholesale operations.
Construction of the new Michaels distribution center began in the fall of 2005 and will be completed by September. Implementation of the FKI Logistex system is scheduled to start soon after and be completed by mid-2007.
