FKI wins Shanghai airport contract
U.K.-based FKI Logistex said Thursday it has won a $40 million contract to supply the baggage handling system for the new Shanghai Pudong International Airport Terminal 2 in China. The system, scheduled for completion in 2007, is being implemented to handle growing passenger volume at terminal, which is estimated to reach 22 million people in 2010 and 40 million in 2015, FKI said in a statement.
Pudong’s new system will offer early bag storage, allowing bags checked in advance of flight times to be stored using take-away conveyors that route them to a backup make-up carousel.
FKI baggage handling systems are also in operation at airports in Bangkok, Manila, Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul and Hanoi, Guangzhou, and will soon be in the new Changi International Airport in Singapore.
