FMC investigating NVOs for possible violations

The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission has instituted an investigation into possible Shipping Act violations by three non-vessel-operating common carriers suspected of accepting shipments from ocean transportation intermediaries that did not have required FMC tariffs or bonds.

The FMC issued an order of investigation and hearing May 11 to look into accusations against Euroamerica Group Inc., based in Jessup, Md.; Tober Group Inc., based in Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Container Innovations Inc., based in Kearny, N.J.

The FMC ordered that public hearings on the separate allegations be held and that the cases be assigned to an FMC administrative law judge.
