Former mayor named to Redwood City Port Commission

The Redwood City Council appointed former Redwood City Mayor Dick Claire last week to the five-member Redwood City Board of Port Commissioners.

The appointment fills a seat vacated by Jack Castle last year after a 20-year tenure on the board, one of the longest stints ever for a West Coast port commissioner.

In addition to his years as mayor, Claire spent nearly three decades in local political offices, including 21 years on the Redwood City Council and seven years on the city's planning commission. A 33-year staff member of Canada College in Redwood City, Claire is now a financial and accounting professor emeritus at the college.

The Redwood City Council also reappointed Ralph Garcia, a long-time local businessman to the port board. Garcia first joined the board in 2005 after serving on the city planning commission for just over a decade.
