Former TRANSCOM commander joins ARC, AAL boards

Former U.S. Transportation Command chief Gen. John W. Handy has joined the boards of American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier and American Auto Logistics, effective Oct. 1.

“Handy will advise us particularly on matters of long-term strategy and development of future markets and business opportunities,” said Ray Ebeling, chairman and president of both ARC and AAL, in a statement Wednesday.

ARC is the largest U.S.-flag ro/ro carrier and the third-largest U.S.-flag international liner carrier, providing these services between the United States and the Middle East and Europe.

AAL is a New Jersey-based logistics management company, which manages the Defense Department’s global private vehicle contract.

Handy retired from the military after a 39-year career in the U.S. Air Force. He served as commanding general of TRANSCOM for more than four years.
