FORWARD AIR REPORTS RISE IN PROFIT, REVENUE

   Forward Air Corp., the Tennessee-based air freight trucker, reported increases in earnings and revenues for the quarter ended March 31.

   The company said its latest quarter marked the 11th consecutive record quarter of comparative operating revenue and earnings.

   Operating revenue for the latest quarter increased 23 percent to $60.7 million, compared with $49.4 million for the same quarter in 2000. Operating income rose by 33 percent to $9.8 million, from $7.4 million. Net income rose 34 percent to $6.2 million, from $4.6 million.

'    Bruce Campbell, Forward Air’s president and chief operating officer, said, “We are pleased with the results our people delivered in the first quarter and their ability to meet the challenges of the current difficult freight environment.”

   Additionally, Forward Air said it has promoted Andrew Clarke to chief financial officer and senior vice president.
