Freightliner to replace box-handling fleet
United Kingdom-based Freightliner Intermodal has awarded a '6 million ($11 million) contract to CVS Ferrari to completely replace its box-handling equipment fleet by supplying 27 new reachstacker, empty container lift, and internal movement vehicles.
Freightliner had sourced its handling equipment from a mix of suppliers, which included CVS Ferrari. The new fleet will be supplied on a maintenance inclusive basis, which will be undertaken by the CVS Ferrari U.K. distributor, S.H.A.D. Fork Truck Ltd.
The deal will see Freightliner receive nine reachstacker F378.5 machines, 10 empty container handler F18EC machines, and eight internal FYT220 tractor units. The first of the new machines will be delivered this summer.
“This is the latest phase of our investment program to ensure we provide reliable and efficient container transport services,” said Peter Maybury, Freightliner Intermodal’s managing director. “Every day we handle around 2,500 boxes, and this new equipment will help us move them between rail, road or store more efficiently.”
