Fuel prices trigger Lufthansa cargo surcharge increase
Lufthansa Cargo said it is increasing its fuel surcharge to .20 euros (23 cents) from .15 euros, effective May 10, in response to record crude oil prices and the resulting rise in the cost of jet fuel.
The change has implications for the air freight industry in general as many airlines use Lufthansa's fuel surcharge index as a benchmark for their own charges to shippers.
Lufthansa's index is based on the average price of aviation fuel in five key spot markets.
