Georgia Ports expands trade department

The Georgia Ports Authority is reorganizing its trade development division, the promotion and marketing arm of the authority, by adding an “inside sales” department.

The inside sales department, which the port authority described as unique in the port industry, “will serve as a strategically focused and innovative link to new domestic markets,” GPA said.

The department will be overseen by Byron H. Hock, director of trade development, and led by Chip Hawkins, formerly GPA’s regional manager of cargo sales.

“In just three years, the GPA has experienced a total of 50 percent growth in containerized cargo,” said Doug J. Marchand, executive director of the GPA. He added it is critical the port expands its marketing efforts to reach a larger customer base.
