Georgia ports post 19 percent growth in July
The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has ended July, the first month of its new fiscal year, by posting a 19 percent gain in container business at the Port of Savannah and a 19.8 percent gain in auto and machinery units handled at the Port of Brunswick.
GPA said its ports handled 162,111 TEUs in July, an increase of 25,903 over July 2004.
During July, the Colonel's Island terminal at the Port of Brunswick handled 30,409 auto and machinery units, or 5,026 more units than in July of last year.
In May, Turkon Line began a new U.S. East Coast/Mediterranean service to the Port of Savannah. In June, CSAV Line signed a formal agreement with the GPA, increasing the Georgia ports' Latin-American options.
