GLOBAL AIRFREIGHT TRAFFIC ROSE 4.7% IN AUGUST
Global airfreight traffic increased by 4.7 percent in August, primarily because of a surge in volumes at Asia-Pacific airports, according to Airports Council International. Total air cargo volume handled by 756 airports worldwide in August reached 5.41 million metric tons.
Asia-Pacific airports posted a volume increase of 14.4 percent, to 1.58 million tons.
North American airports saw volume drop by 0.1 percent, to 2.31 million tons.
Air cargo volume in Europe was up 1.2 percent, to 1.01 million tons.
For the other regions, the Middle East had a 20.1 percent volume gain, to 222,300 tons and Latin America and the Caribbean saw traffic volume increase by 1.9 percent, to about 211,500 tons. Africa experienced a 9.4-percent volume decrease, to about 65,900 tons.
