GLOBAL ALLIANCE FOR TRADE EFFICIENCY STARTS OPERATIONS

A new industry group, the Global Alliance for Trade Efficiency, has been formed to identify and eliminate non-tariff barriers to international trade.

“Customs reform and supply chain modernization will only be achieved when the global business community assembles in a forum with a united goal of facilitating world trade,” said Jim Clawson, director general of GATE. “It is not enough to lower tariffs if the players in the global economy still face outdated logistics at ports around the world.”

The group held introductory meetings in both Washington and Brussels last week.

GATE member companies represent users of customs and trade systems, information technology providers, customs and trade service providers and firms that specialize in capacity building.
