Golar LNG acquires stake in fellow tanker operator Korea Line
Golar LNG, the Nasdaq-listed liquefied natural gas tanker shipping company controlled by the Scandinavian shipowner John Fredriksen, has acquired 9.9 percent of fellow tanker shipping operator Korea Line
Golar did not disclose the price of the transaction, but said that Korea Line, listed on the Seoul stock exchange, has a market capitalization of about $130 million.
Korean Line owns 100 percent of two modern liquefied natural gas carriers on long-term charter to Kogas. The Korean company has ownership stakes in four large liquefied natural gas carriers also on long-term charter to Kogas.
Golar said that it sees the investment in Korea Line as “an interesting opportunity to develop a positive relationship” with an Asian liquefied natural gas shipping providers.
Golar recently sold about $51 million worth of shares through a share issue.
