Grand, New World alliances file cooperative agreement with FMC
New World Alliance members APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL, and remaining Grand Alliance carriers Hapag-Lloyd, MISC Berhad, NYK Line and OOCL, have formally filed a cooperative working agreement with the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission.
The proposed agreement will “authorize the parties to share vessel space and engage in related rationalization, coordination, and cooperative activities in the trade between ports in North Asia and ports on the U.S. Atlantic Coast via the Panama Canal,” the FMC said.
Earlier this month, the two alliances announced plans to combine services in the Asia-to-Europe/Mediterranean trade, as well as starting a new joint all-water service between Asia and the U.S. East Coast from next year, in an effort to minimize the impact of P&O Nedlloyd’s withdrawal from the Grand Alliance due February.
