Gravel barge refloated off the coast of Boston
The 360-foot deck cargo barge 'G.T. Ironmaster,' which capsized May 27 near Boston, has been refloated by a salvage team from Donjon Marine Co. Inc.
While being towed by the 4,000-horsepower tug 'Navigator' en route from Boston to New Haven, Conn., the unmanned barge rolled over and lost its load of non-hazardous gravel.
Upon award of a competitively-bid salvage contract, a 15-man team used Donjon's 1,000-ton capacity derrick barge 'Chesapeake 1000' as the primary means of lifting and righting the 'Ironmaster.'
