GREAT LAKES PILOTAGE RATES INCREASE 3%
The U.S. Coast Guard has issued its final rule for new pilotage rates on the Great Lakes.
The agency said the new rates were based on an independent audit of expenses, a 1999 rate review, comments from the industry, and a public meeting at its Washington headquarters on Oct. 12.
The rates, which take effect Aug. 13, will increase pilotage rates across the seven Great Lake areas by 3 percent. In one area the pilotage rates remain unchanged while another has been increased by 9 percent. The Coast Guard said the pay for Great Lake pilots will increase by 11 percent under the updated rates.
