HANJIN INTRODUCES NEW SHIPS INTO PENDULUM SERVICE

   Korea’s Hanjin Shipping, as part of the United Alliance is introducing three new 5,618-TEU vessels into its weekly U.S. West Coast/Asia/Indian subcontinent/Europe/ Asia/U.S. West Coast “pendulum” service.

   The first vessel, the Hanjin Ottawa, was phased into the United Alliance’s PDM 1 service in Hong Kong on Nov. 2. The Hanjin Vienna will follow on Dec. 24 and the Hanjin Geneva enters the service on Jan. 11.

   The three 5,618-TEU ships are among the largest in the Hanjin fleet. They replace one ship of 4,500-TEUs and two of 5,300-TEUs, adding about 8,000-TEUs in annual one-way capacity.

   The other members of the United Alliance are Cho Yang Shipping, Hanjin subsidiary, Senator Lines and United Arab Shipping Company in the Asia/Europe and North America/Mideast trades.
