Hanjin orders four 4,275-TEU ships
Hanjin Shipping has ordered four 4,275-TEU vessels from Samsung Heavy Industries at a cost of $255.2 million, and is considering ordering another four of the same class.
The ships will measure 260.7 meters (855.3 feet) long and 32.2 meters (105.6 feet) wide, with a deadweight of 115,700 tons. They will have a top speed of 24.5 knots.
The Korean carrier said the four confirmed ships will be used to replace current medium to small class chartered vessels starting from early 2008 when their contracts expire.
Hanjin next year will receive eight 6,500-TEU vessels it ordered in 2003 and 2004 to be deployed in the Asia/Europe trade lane.
Hanjin’s fleet comprises 83 vessels with a combined capacity of approximately 300,000 TEUs.
