HANJIN SHIPPED 1.05 MILLION TEUS IN FIRST HALF

Hanjin Shipping said it carried 1.05 million TEUs during the first half of 2001, up 4.8 percent from the year-earlier period.

The majority of the Korean shipping line’s traffic was on the transpacific, or 503,000 TEUs, an increase of 5.4 percent from last year. Routes to Europe held 301,000 TEUs, it said.

Hanjin aims to carry 2.16 million TEUs this year, compared to 2.03 million TEUs in 2000.

“The length of one million containers is approximately, 6,096 kilometers, about the distance between Seoul and Alaska,” a spokesman for Hanjin said.

Hanjin operates 122 vessels, including 46 container and 76 bulk carriers.
