HHLA handled 4 million TEUs in 2003
Hamburger Hafen und Lagerhaus-AG, the largest port operator in Hamburg, handled a container traffic of 3.95 million TEUs in 2003, 12 percent more than in 2002.
HHLA, which operates the Altenwerder, Burchardkai and Tollerort container terminals in Hamburg, reported that it has seen a transfer of volume from Burchardkai to the new Altenwerder terminal.
Burchardkai handled 2.4 million TEUs last year, a decrease of 5 percent. In its first full financial year, the Altenwerder facility moved 874,000 TEUs, as planned. At the Tollerort container terminal, container throughput rose 5 percent, to about 660,000 TEUs. Other facilities of HHLA handled a further 79,000 TEUs last year.
The port of Hamburg reported last week that the port handled a total of about 6.2 million TEUs in 2003, about 15 percent more than the 5.4-million-TEU throughput of the previous year.
